A Green Lemonade beauty wrote in and asked for a little guidance with Chinese Herbal Medicine. She is particularly interested in a few herbs which support fertility and a healthy pregnancy. So, I asked a few cleansing gurus, including Giuliana Torre and Jacqueline Graham in conjunction with detox guru Dr. Gabriel Cousens, and here is what they had to say.
All about Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine focuses on restoring and balancing the energies of our body and our spirit to support good health. This ancient form of healing aims to understand and treat the many ways in which the balance and harmony in our bodies may become blocked or depleted which can ultimately weigh on our vitality (jing), our daily zest for life (qi) and our spirit (shen).
More about jing, qi and shen
Chinese medicine is based on three forms of energy: jing, qi and shen. Jing is the primal energy that we are born with. We receive our jing from our parents when we are conceived. Jing is the essence of the sperm and egg that combine to form life. In Chinese medicine, we support and nourish jing through diet and herbal therapy. It is said that when, our jing runs out, we run out. Qi is the energy of the moment. It is what enlivens and animates us. It is what we get from eating and breathing. Shen is our spiritual power. It is our experience of the world. It is the spirit and divinity that resides within us.
Chinese herbs for fertility and a healthy pregnancy
Cleansing gurus will occasionally recommend women having difficulty with getting pregnant consider supplementing their diet with a few chinese herbs. These are a few of the popular herbs they often recommend.
-
Reishi mushroom extract
Reishi mushroom extract is actually recommended for anyone. It can be taken at any time. It is believed to be the best longevity herb. It is immune building and acts against inflammation in our body. It is believed to balance our mind and our nervous system. Reishi mushroom extract is also believed to purify our liver and balance our spiritual system. It is believed to be the ultimate herb for pregnant and nursing women because it builds the stem cells of the baby and is nurturing in its constitution. Reishi mushroom extract is believed in Chinese medicine to be like giving the baby a dose of jing, qi, shen and God all in one shot.
Chinese medicine practicioners believe giving birth uses up jing each time we welcome a new life into the world. So the thinking goes that every time you give birth you are aging. To help with this aging process, gurus recommend consuming a eucommia supplement.
-
Eucommia
Eucommia is believed to be THE tonic herb for increasing vitality (jing). It nourishes our bone marrow, stimulates bone building, sedates high blood pressure, strengthens the kidneys, helps to prevent miscarriage and stabilizes the mothers back, helping to prepare her for delivery by benefiting the uterus and fetus during pregnancy.
-
Cordyceps
Cordyceps builds our daily zest for life (qi). It is a great blood tonic that also helps prevent bleeding and is good for producing breast milk.
-
Ho Sho Wu
Ho Sho Wu increases fertility by increasing sperm count.
