Pre-Pregnancy Cleansing: How Far In Advance Should You Prepare Your Body?

Thinking about having a baby? Consider upgrading your diet to include more naturally cleansing foods such as whole fruits, leafy greens and raw veggies. Compliment these foods with delicious roasted and sauteed veggies, quality grains and lean proteins. My journey toward motherhood over the past few months has been such a joy and a delight and I believe it has to do with the time I spent preparing my body for pregnancy. Pre-pregnancy cleansing: How far in advance should you prepare your body?

Cleansing and natural health pioneers believe the key to an enjoyable and happy pregnancy relates largely to how you prepare your body for conception. Here are the three common tips they recommend when it comes to getting that bod ready for babies.

  1. The sooner the better. Cleansing gurus argue that the more time you have to rid the crud and gunk that may be stored up in your body, the better. These blockages from poor eating and over eating are believed to inhibit your get-me-pregnant ability. (Learn more about how to get started eating more clean, cleansing foods here). PS- abrasive home cleansing and detox products are not recommended.

  2. Give up the pill, ideally a year in advance, to allow enough time for the hormones to cycle out of your body.

  3. If you are already pregnant, cleansing gurus strongly advocate against a radical change in your diet and any and all juice fasts. The toxins stirred up by a juice fast for instance is too much for the little life you are nurturing! Cleansing gurus, however, do suggest gentle diet upgrades such as eating more fruits and veggies and hydrating raw salads. These are gentle, naturally cleansing foods. I know what you mean. i had the same issue. i wrote something up in detail
that i will post on the site tomorrow. in the meantime, the key is to stay
away from the master cleanse, and liquid only juice fasts. Instead augment
your diet with naturally cleansing fruits, veggies and hydrating salads.
you still want to keep eating cooked foods (roasted/steamed veggies) and
quality lean meats (if you have been) and grains. if you are a big meat
eater now and have eggs, chicken or beef at every meal (because meat
requires a fair amount of energy to digest) consider a few more
veggie-centric meals. on a relative basis meat is harder to digest and as a
result takes more energy away from your body's cleansing and rejuvenation
work. so a few healthy vegetarian meals could be a great, gentle upgrade. i
adopted some of these gentle cleansing tactics throughout conception and
during my pregnancy. the key is just to be gentle. in general some of my
favorite books on how to eat a more veggie-centric natural diet are written
by michael pollan and dr. joel fuhrman. hope that is helpful. noelle

  • Your topic is spot on for my current concerns. I very much want to cleanse my body prior to pregnancy, but am concerned about releasing too many toxins that might still be floating around by the time I get pregnant. Do you have any insights as to where I might get more information about timing a pre-pregnancy cleanse?

honestly! I'm 7 months and I feel great! I highly recommend the diet prep!
If only for the possible placebo affect!

  • Wow, I was just talking about this with my friends!!
