3 Easy Ways To Boost Your Metabolism

Recently I had the chance to speak with healthy aging guru, Dr. Oz Garcia. He reinforced an unorthodox view that I’ve experienced with respect to clean eating and a healthy metabolism. Basically, the thinking goes that the less crusty gunk you have in your body the more efficiently your metabolism continues to run. How does one accumulate this crusty gunk you ask? Poor eating (I’m looking at you processed foods!) and overeating (learn more about portion size) are two big factors.

3 Easy Ways To Boost Your Metabolism

“Mainstream fitness books and magazines have it wrong. Your metabolism is not located in your body. It’s a combination of many systems working together to burn calories and generate heat.” – Dr. Oz

  1. Eat more naturally cleansing foods. Fresh fruit, vegetables and leafy greens are easily recognized and utilized by your body. The thinking is that your metabolism actually operates the most optimally when its not bogged down with a lot of difficult to digest, overly processed foods. These foods often linger in your body as waste, weight and crud.

  2. Keep meal portions in check The heavier you get, the more gunk your body accumulates and then your metabolism slows. Not sure how much to be eating? Introduce yourself to the concept of a Buddha Bowl.

  3. Dabble in intermittent cleansing Contrary to what you read in many mainstream fitness magazines, Dr. Oz does not believe in eating a lot of small meals to “fire up” your metabolism. He believes a healthy metabolism best operates in a clear, crud-free body. He acknowledges that eating three small meals a day and two snacks can help you keep you on track in the beginning as you eat more natural foods. But overtime, he believes its better to actually eat less frequently (i.e. skip the snacks) to give your body more time to handle it’s detoxification, slimming and rejuvenation work.
