New York Fashion Week: The Fashionista Juice Cleanse

This week designers, fashionistas and models are taking over New York City for Fashion Week. The U.S. Open Tennis Tournament up in Queens, NY is also igniting the Big Apple. The city is hopping. The adrenaline is inspiring. Just walking around the streets of New York this time of year is a blast. I love this city and this photo (left) which is sourced from Badgley Mischka’s Fall collection here.

Threaded throughout all the fashion and tennis excitement, the city is also a buzz about a cleanse called The Fashionista Juice Cleanse. That’s right, many Fashion Week go-ers are enjoying fresh pressed juices in conjunction with Fashion Week. The “juice” is going mainstream.

The key (as many of you know by now when it comes to juice cleansing) is to make sure that YOUR juice consumption is done at a pace that is right for you, your body and your diet history. Don’t fall into the trap that New York Post’s Raakhee Mirchandani fell into. In the spirit of Fashion Week, this poor beauty dove into a three-day juice only cleanse – and it sounds to me like it was too much, too fast. How do I know? Instead of feeling refreshed and invigorated, she was overwhelmed with headaches, nausea and exhaustion. She ended up bingeing too. I felt her frustration as I read through the recap of her journey here. When I did my first liquid-only cleanse years ago, the same thing happened to me too. I went too far, too fast.

So in honor of fashion week, and “The Fashionista Cleanse” I wanted to remind everyone how to ease into juicing so that you can enjoy a successful juice cleansing experience if/when you are ready. Gosh, I wish I had these tips years ago.

5 Things You Should Know About How to Do A Juice Cleanse + More
  1. “Cleansing” is actually not as scary as it sounds. When you get right down to it, “cleansing” is really just a scary word for the process of rebuilding and repairing your digestive tract. After all, a healthy digestive tract is the key to good health and can have a slimming impact on your body. The key is to cleanse at a pace that is right for you.

  2. There is a broad spectrum when it comes to cleansing – there is something for everyone. A juice fast is on the more progressive end of this cleansing spectrum.

  3. An all liquid juice cleanse is one way – but not the only way – to start the process of “loosening up toxins, detoxifying your organs and cleansing your emotions”. A great way to get started enjoying this process is by incorporating nutritious and alkaline rich drinks into your day. Try a green smoothie for breakfast. You might like this Cashew Peach Green Smoothie or this Classic Green Smoothie. Juicing until dinner is another great option on this path toward rejuvenation.

  4. It’s key to prepare your body for an all liquid juice cleanse to avoid bingeing and a truly uncomfortable experience. Here is a sample pre-cleanse menu to get you inspired.

  5. Not interested in juice cleanses? Don’t worry. Here are 7 easy ways to rejuvenate your body naturally and capitalize on a youthful feel-good glow.

More About The “Fashionista Cleanse”

This year’s first Fashion Week “Fashionista Cleanse” is being sponsored by Organic Avenue. For those of you not familiar with the store, Organic Avenue is a fresh pressed juice, smoothie and natural food wonderland in New York City and Southampton, NY. Gwyneth Paltrow is a big fan of this live vegan food mecca. I can’t blame her. These guys make some super good stuff. The awesomeness does come at a price, of course, but as an occasional indulgence – boy is it worth it.

Organic Avenue has installed a pop-up stand up in the heart of Lincoln Center just in time to cater to all the fashionista fun. The special “Fashionista Cleanse,” which consists of 3 days of raw, vegan, made fresh daily juices, can be pre-ordered and delivered to participants in New York City this week. Or fashion go-ers can pick up a selection of soups and smoothies along with the fresh pressed juices at the pop up stand. The pop up stand (located in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center) is open daily through the duration of Fashion Week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Learn more about Organic Avenue’s juice cleanses here. I recently completed 5 days on “just juice” with Organic Avenue this August. If you live outside of New York City, you might also appreciate checking out the juice cleanse programs from The BluePrint Cleanse – which delivers nationally.
