While your meals evolve and change with the seasons, the core principles of a detox-diet friendly lifestyle remain unchanged. But the hardest part of any healthy living lifestyle is trying to remember which principles to stay true to. Here they are, simple and easy to live by (most days anyway). This post is a follow up to yesterday’s entry entitled How Does A Detox-Diet Friendly Lifestyle Evolve Into Fall + Winter?. Thank you to everyone who submitted a few additional questions and thoughts on this feel-good, look-good way of living.
Core Principles Of A Detox-Diet Friendly Lifestyle
- Think veggies and leafy greens first. When you are putting together a meal think about how you are going to include a serving of veggies (uncooked, sautéed, roasted etc) and leafy greens first. Vegetables and leafy greens are often the most overlooked part of the meal…and they are so important as you seek a cleansing and rejuvenating lifestyle. Uncooked vegetables and leafy greens, along with fruit are naturally cleansing by nature helping your body to remove any waste that might be keeping you from reaching your inherent bliss. And remember no food group is eliminated on this way of living – some (like plant based foods) are just featured more often than others (sugary foods, chips, etc.).
- Focus on easily digestible foods, in the right combinations and in the right portions. Don’t obsess about food combining. Instead think of food combining as a built in portion control and a way to keep your mid-day energy vibrant. Easily digestible foods, in the right portions enable your body to be efficient in its digestion so more of your body’s energy can be spent on healing and your beautification.
- It’s about eating higher quality food. No food group is eliminated on this diet, but avoid the temptation to indulge in too many processed foods (which zap your energy). When you can, also try and invest in quality organic food. I tend to buy organic fruits and vegetables when I eat the whole fruit or vegetable (soft skinned apples, lettuce, etc.)
- Exercise and spending time each week doing something you love is a key component of this feel-good, look-younger lifestyle.
- It’s about starting slowly, and building momentum. The lifestyle evolves through the seasons, with your moods and the direction of your life. There is no one way to achieve success on this lifestyle. Each of you will need to explore a little bit to find the best combination of meals and principles that work for you. Some days you may find yourself slipping back into donut and pizza days. Don’t dwell on what you perceive as any backward progress. Tomorrow is another day. It’s about moving forward, constantly growing and evolving. It’s not about perfection. When mom comes to visit, if you want one of her homemade cranberry and orange scones, enjoy one or two of them to the fullest.
