8 Juice Diet Myths Busted

Forget the naysayers, here’s what the proponents of juice fasting believe.

Just dropping in? You might also appreciate these thoughts on the power of intermittent cleansing from healthy aging guru Dr. Oz Garcia.

  1. Fasting is misunderstood

Proponents of juice fasting believe fasting gets a bad reputation in today’s society because many people don’t understand how to control the healing power of the body that is unleashed during a liquid juice fast.

  2. Advice should be sought

Proper advice should always be sought at the onset of a juice fast, if it is to extend beyond two to three days. The body’s natural healing and detoxification system – which is fired up through a combination of whole, raw foods, vegetable juices, blended smoothies and soups must be varied and adapted to each individual case. Not everyone is the same. And a juice fast is not necessarily right for everyone at the same point in time. “Mini” fasts though are a great bet for everyone. Mini fasts usually involve fasting until lunch or dinner.

  3. Our elimination systems can’t keep up on their own today

Advocates of juice fasting believe that our poor diets today centered around processed foods, and an increasingly toxic environment are overwhelming our detoxification systems from doing anything more than digesting food. They believe juice fasting (which allows the body to take energy spent on digesting and focus on healing) is necessary to allow the body to catch up on its backlog of “housework.” Excess waste in our bodies they believe = excess weight.

  4. Health problems can be reversed

Many chronic health problems in our society today result from bad eating habits. A diet that incorporates abundant real, raw foods (it doesn’t have to be a 100% raw diet nor should it be) and nutritious liquids (vegetable juice, blended smoothies and soups) help cleanse the body, and rebuild it. A nutritious, mostly veggie juice fast takes the cleansing a step deeper.

  5. Juicing turns up the body’s power to heal

A juice fast turns up the intensity and effectiveness of the body’s healing and detoxification system by shifting energy away from digestion. A veggie based juice fast, as compared to a water fast or the master cleanse (which can both be dangerous if done unsupervised) contains nutrients which supports a deep cleansing process that reaches right down to each and every cell and tissue in the body. A nutritious juice fast also provides the body with the right nutrients including enzymes, vitamins and trace minerals to rebuild the body’s internal terrain (a water fast does not).

  6. Less energy spent to digest food, means more healing power elsewhere

Because less energy is spent on digesting food during a juice fast, the body has more energy to conduct its healing and “housecleaning” processes.

  7. Western medicine does not understand the power of fasting

Modern, western medicine is missing the connection between a toxic body and sickness, lethargy, excess weight and depression. You don’t have to drink only vegetable juices though to experience this happy high, and light-in-the-body feeling. Eating more real, plant-based foods will put you on this path of vibrancy.

  8. The fasting message is not for everyone

Professor Arnold Ehret – creator of the Mucusless Diet Healing System which is centered around foods from nature to heal and restore one’s physical and mental strength – says it best perhaps: “It [Fasting] is dedicated to those who are in search of truth and can recognize and accept facts on the strength of actual experiments without bothering to question who proclaimed them and whether the majority aggress with them or disagrees with them.”
