You love a good apple, and a tasty plate of crudités loaded with the latest farm pickings. And yes, you know you should probably be eating a few more leafy greens and veggies, but existing on raw fruits and vegetables alone? Well, not so much.
Thankfully there is a rapidly growing community of individuals who agree with you and this is where the story begins.
Re-introduce yourself to the beauty of eating a few more real foods each day
Realizing the struggles women today are having with their health on a Standard American Diet and the extreme direction the raw food movement has taken, there is a group of individuals set out to re-introduce our society to the beautiful physical and mental health benefits of incorporating just a few more servings of natural, uncooked fruits and vegetables into a day. There is a focus on quality and freshness. Organic foods are suggested when budgets allow for it and hormone free meats and dairy are also encouraged.
These contemporary health educators just want to help us all eat more real foods. But don’t dare call today’s eat-more-real-food proponents, “raw foodists” – they are trying to shed this label. This community believes that steamed and roasted vegetables along with lean meats and dairy and even the occasional indulgences have a place in this lifestyle. Too many raw fruits and vegetables at once, for anyone not used to this way of eating, will be overwhelmed by the cleansing and detoxifying power of these foods. Steamed foods, along with small quantities of meats, fish and dairy – acting as garnish to our daily meals – keeps detoxification in check and provides emotional comfort and longer-term satisfaction to keep this way of eating sustainable.
In this healthy eating, natural foods movement there is something for everyone
The beauty of this healthy eating movement is that there is something for everyone. Some people simply want to find a way to prepare and enjoy a few more servings of fruits and vegetables in their day – but they are certainly not interested in a 180 degree change.
Other people want to check out the benefits this way of living has to detoxify and heal our bodies. There are a group of well-trained counselors slowly popping up around the country, trained in how to conduct intelligent cleansing practices through fresh foods and pressed juices. This level of detoxing through living foods though takes work and guidance, but the results speak for themselves: radiant skin, more energy, and a sleek body. Many women also claim to see a significant reduction in cellulite.
An education in the health benefits of more natural plant based foods, also comes with an introduction into how the chemistry of our bodies work. This inherently brings a new understanding of how to feed our bodies for health-generating effects (answer: more leafy greens, fruits and veggies).
Why change your diet if you feel fine?
Processed foods, breads, abundant meats and dairy seem fine when you’re young. Some women exist on meal replacement bars, powdered protein shakes and 100 calorie snack packs for years – when you’re young your body can handle everything. But when you get older it starts to catch up with you – usually in the form of less energy.
