To make healthy eating even more effortless, try a green smoothie for breakfast. You and your whole family will love them. Green smoothies are filled with green leafy veggies. But they are so tasty in these green smoothies, you won’t even know you are eating them!!

Instead, you’ll just be enjoying a smoothie so delicious while benefiting from an abundance of yummy chlorophyll (which is “sunshine” in a green form that is purifying and healing to our bodies), antioxidants, and other good-for-your-blood nutrients for superior health and energy. Green smoothies are also loaded with fiber, promoting good digestion and eliminations.

Getting more leafy greens into your diet couldn’t be easier. Significant others, family members, officemates and even your kids will love them.

5 Easy Green Smoothies Recipes

For all of the recipes listed below, combine the ingredients listed into a blender. Any blender will do, though a high power blender makes the smoothies even creamier and more delicious. Add water and ice to thin or thicken as desired. Make sure ice is fully blended.

Each recipe makes 1 serving.

  • Classic Green Smoothie

    Combine 8 oz. of filtered water, a handful of baby spinach, 1 banana (sliced) and a handful of ice.

  • Creamy Green Smoothie

    Combine 8 oz. filtered water, a handful of baby spinach, ½ of a ripe avocado, ½ of a banana (sliced) and a handful of ice.

  • Coconut Green Smoothie

    Combine 8 oz. of coconut water (Zico brand coconut water is a good one), a handful of baby spinach, 1/2 of a pear (sliced), 1 tbsp of shredded coconut (if you have it on hand, otherwise leave out) and a handful of ice

  • Harvest Green Smoothie

    Combine 8 oz. of rice milk (unflavored), 1 cup of cooked butternut squash (fresh is best, otherwise use 1 cup of canned organic pumpkin), a handful of baby spinach,1-2 tsp of honey (depending how sweet you like your smoothies) and a handful of ice. If you have molasses on hand add a ½ tsp of molasses with just 1 tsp of honey.

  • Field of Greens Smoothie

    Combine 8 oz. of filtered water, a handful of baby mesclun greens, ½ of a ripe avocado, 3-4 pitted dates (fresh if you can find them) and a handful of ice.

Equipment and Considerations

Blenders for Your Smoothies
These green smoothies can be made in any blender. If you want to really make them creamy and rich consider an investment in a high powered blender. However, a high powered blender is DEFINITELY NOT required. They can be expensive. But if you decide that you really love these green smoothies, it’s a worthwhile consideration. Vitamix brand and Blendtec brand blenders are two of the best high power blenders on the market. The Breville brand blender is also a well respected, and less expensive blender – though if you’re going to make an investment of a few hundred dollars in a blender, I’d go with the Blendtec.

A frozen banana in the smoothies, ramps up the frothiness and can be quite tasty. If you choose to freeze your bananas, be sure and peel them before putting them in the freezer. A good idea is to wrap the bananas in parchment paper or wax paper for storage. Both the parchment paper and the wax paper can be found next to the aluminum foil in your grocery store. Keep the wrapping tight with a piece of masking tape.
