Lemon Lime Shake

Lately, I’ve been trying to curb my sweet tooth a little. It’s gotten to the point where I want a little nibble of chocolate after just about every meal (yikes!). So over the past few weeks, I’ve been embracing a gentle sugar cleanse and trying to come up with alternative treats, like this Lemon Lime Shake, to help curb my cravings in the afternoons. It has a nice zesty kick. The perfect better-for-me treat.

Lemon Lime Shake

Serving Size: 1

Ingredients

1 lemon
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 lime
1/2 teaspoon lime zest
1/2 avocado
1/2 cup cucumber
1 cup baby spinch, loosely packed
1 cup water, filtered
1/16th – 1/8th TEAspoon Stevia*

Better-for-you ingredients

Learn more about the better-for-you ingredients in this recipe:

  • Avocados Good quality fats (including avocados, “cloudy” extra virgin olive oil and coconuts), enjoyed in moderation, will actually store in the body as energy and not fat which helps you lose weight in the long run.
  • Spinach – Dark leafy greens are loaded with vitamins and minerals, antioxidants and blood alkalinizers for superior health and energy.

Directions

Take the juice of one lemon and half of a lime and add them to your blender. Combine the avocado, cucumber, water and 1/16th TEAspoon of Stevia. Blend well. Taste. Add another 1/16th TEAspoon of Stevia to sweeten, if desired. Stevia is quite potent. Enjoy!

* Stevia is a plant native to Central and South America. It is 300 times as sweet as sugar, but has zero calories. A little Stevia goes a long way. I recommend the Nu Naturals brand of Stevia in powdered form.
