Blender Review: Blendtec, Vita-Mix, Breville
Posted February 24th, 2010 by noelle | View Comments
Blendtec and Vita-Mix followed by Breville make some of the best blenders on the market. They are not cheap though. Recently, after being frustrated with a wimpy blender that couldn’t chop ice or make the creamy smoothies I wanted, I saved some money and treated myself to a Blendtec (~$400). Pricey? yes. Life changing in terms of how easy it is now to eat more healthy meals? You bet.
Do not feel like you need to buy a new blender to eat and enjoy more natural, whole foods. Use your basic blender in the beginning and see how you are enjoying your morning green smoothies. The easiest way to pick yourself up out of a health funk is to self-medicate with a green smoothie for breakfast. At first you might cringe, but once you get on the bandwagon, you’ll be hooked to how great you feel.
If there are chunks of fruit, ice or spinach in your green smoothie then you’re not giving yourself a chance to appreciate just how good a green smoothie for breakfast can be.
At that stage, consider one of these blender investments. I ranked them according to good, better, best.
GOOD BLENDER – Breville Blender
Leave it to Breville to make a sleek, powerful (750 watts), relatively quiet and easy to clean blender. Making smoothies is a dream. (~$175)
BETTER BLENDER – Vita-Mix Blender
Vita-Mix brand blenders make dazzling smoothies. It’s the perfect investment if you are looking to eat more leafy greens and vegetables and have been reluctant in the past. No doubt about it, this machine is powerful (1380 watts) and loud. But it makes one of the smoothest smoothies on the market. You’ll be spoiled. You can also make some fabulous soups and whip up some mean meals. The blender also comes with a 5 year (Amazon) – 7 year (Costco) warranty, depending on where you purchase it. (~$345)
BEST BLENDER – Blendtec Blender
Recognizing the “which is better” debate between a Blendec and a Vita-Mix blender is close to being as heated as politics and religion at a dinner party, I actually prefer the Blendtec.
Similar to the Vita-Mix, you can blend and enjoy some equally dazzling smoothies with a Blendtec blender. No bits of leaves, or chunks of stuff, just pure smoothie bliss. Lots of power (1,560 watts) you’ll be amazed by, but just like the Vita-Mix, its loud. However, the performance is awesome. It’s my personal favorite for several reasons including how easy it is to clean. The 2 prong blade is easy to clean under and around. The 1 piece, streamlined, square bucket container (free of hard to clean curves and ridges) and 2 part lid is also easy to take apart and clean.
I also enjoy not having to use a tamper to push the food I’m blending around. For the money I paid for this blender, I want to put the lid on the container, push a button and rock; Fortunately there are several easy pre-set button speeds. The blender comes with a 3 year warranty, depending on where you purchase it. And while the warranty certainly is less attractive than the Vita-Mix, I have not run into many people who have found this to be a major issue since purchasing their blender. Myself included. (~$400)
