Learn To Listen To Your Body For True Hunger Signals

It’s amazing how emotionally attached we are to food. Boredom, tiredness and even stress can make you feel like you want to eat. Sometimes thirst alone is enough to make you want to have a little tasty snack. (Who’s with me here?)

Recently, I have been conducting a little experiment to determine whether I’m really hungry or just want to nibble on a little piece of dark chocolate. The way I have been trying to figure out the difference between the two is to ask myself if I’m hungry enough for something super nutritious like a chopped salad or a bowl of soup or if I really just want a cookie. Most often I’ve determined that I’m just interested in a few tasty morsels. Ha.

So now to keep the munchies at bay, I turn to hydration. I’ve now found that a glass of coconut water, herbal tea (both iced and regular depending on the mood) and sometimes just a plain glass of water with lemon, apple or cucumber essence is enough to quench my emotional hunger. The key is to have a pretty carafe on hand in the refrigerator. Coconut waters are great to have on hand too. If you are looking for coconut waters, Zico brand and Vita Coco brand coconut waters are good options and can usually be found in most grocery stores in the bottled water section. A fresh young Thai coconut of course is an option too. They can be found readily in most grocery stores in the produce section, usually along with the pre-sliced fruit.

Try this “drink some more liquid” trick to curb your munchies and see what you think.
